Priscilla Mlay

CREATIVE SUPERVISOR

Priscilla Mlay (better known as Cece by her creative family) is a passionate storyteller who has been a part of creative teams that bring stories to life on various media platforms from film to television and radio. She has taken part in a number of projects that have been produced by both Tanzanian and international film-makers, these projects have focused on a wide range of subjects that seek to tackle social, political and historical issues here in Tanzania. Her work ranges from feature length films like CPU (Chld Protection Unit) 2011 and Aisha (2016) to short films Shoeshine, A Fada das Veredas, Samaki Mchangani; popular fictional television drama, Siri ya Mtungi and a television documentary series, Mini Buzz. In all these projects she has undertaken various roles growing her knowledge of the process of production through working under various capacities from Production manager and Script supervisor to 1st Assistant Director and Directing. She is ever eager to keep feeding her creative thirst and pushing the boundaries of Tanzanian stories in all its forms – on and off the screen.

 

Gwantwa L. Mwakalinga

ACCOUNTANT

Gwantwa L. Mwakalinga holds a BA of Commerce in Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam. With eight years of experience in the accounting and banking sector, she brings a unique passion for documentary filmmaking to her professional background. The convergence of her expertise in accounting and her love for documentary filmmaking promises to infuse her role with enthusiastic energy. Gwantwa is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and understanding of the documentary form—a storytelling medium that she believes offers an intimate and nuanced lens through which to explore the lives of people and communities at large.

Amil Shivji

FOUNDER | FILM DIRECTOR

Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree from York University (Canada) | Founder of Kijiweni Productions | Recognized as new generation of Strong African Filmmakers | Lecturer at University of Dar es Salaam – Film Production.

With a Masters in Film Production, he continues to make strong African cinema with a cause. He released his directorial debut for a feature film called T-Junction (2017) that opened ZIFF 2017 and garnered three awards on the closing night. He is now about to release the first Tanzanian period drama Vuta N’Kuvute (A Tug of War).

Amil Shivji believes in using images to challenge the powers that be, in particular deconstructing urban facades of development and emphasizing the strength and struggles of marginalized communities. Neocolonialism, cultural and political imperialism have been at the centre of his activist and media work. Kijiweni Productions was set up with the committed to telling local stories with an international standard.
