Mozizi

Mozizi, a female anthropomorphic character (half Anopheles mosquito, half human) is on a quest to find a new ‘home’ after her breeding grounds have been destroyed by fumigation. She takes us through her day as she trounces through the urban scape of Dar es Salaam with a housing agent. They find themselves in a cycle of misadventures as Mozizi finds herself unable to fit in while joyously chasing terrified children in a game of catch. Not wanting to be defeated by the isolation she takes the film crew to what was once her home where she is confronted by a former neighbour, Mariam. Mariam tells her off for causing suffering and disease. This is a blow to Mozizi and she seeks to debunk these claims by confronting the arbiters of the ‘misinformation’ - a doctor and a Malaria expert. The meetings are not successful in Mozizi's eyes as she finds that easy preventable measures - mosquito nets - are widely available and distributed to the public. Not wanting to admit defeat, she cuts holes in treated nets and attempts to distribute them but to no avail. In a last-ditch effort, she holds auditions for the ideal Male Mosquito partner to mate with and produce more anopheles. However, community volunteers show up and thwart her efforts. Mozizi finds herself in a world where she no longer has a home and resigns to her fate, one that offers a world with no malaria.
